There’s nothing quite like the beauty and fragrance of a fresh bouquet of flowers just set in their vase. For a few days or weeks, you get to enjoy the natural warmth and refreshing energy they bring to a room. But decorating with fresh flowers is sort of bittersweet, because you know that eventually the day will come when the final petal wilts and it’s time to say goodbye.
There are steps you can take to avoid this day for as long as possible, but sooner or later you and your flowers are going to have to face the music. The good news is, there are a lot of ways to repurpose a dead bouquet of flowers, so you can continue to enjoy their presence in your home. Check out some of our favorite ideas below!
1) Make potpourri.
The great thing about flowers is that they’re still beautiful, even in death. Instead of tossing your dead, dry bouquet in the trash, toss it into a beautiful bowl of homemade potpourri! There are a ton of easy recipes online. For most of them, all you’ll need is your favorite essential oils and a few hours in the oven.
2) Turn them into décor.
People preserve their bridal bouquets to use for decoration all of the time, so why not do the same to your own gorgeous bouquet? Press your dried flowers or just the petals onto a sheet of paper and frame them for a unique wall print. Or, skip the paper and just frame or hang them outright! This is a great option for bouquets that were received as a meaningful gift.
3) Use them in the bathtub.
Dried flowers make great ingredients for many homemade bath products. You can use them to make a simple bar of soap, bath salts, bath bombs, or even body scrub. Again, the internet is an endless resource for easy DIY bath product recipes.
4) Add them to candles.
A candle with flower petals in it can be a soothing touch in any space. You can choose to use a mold and make your own floral candle from scratch. Or, melt the petals into your favorite store-bought candles using the wax from a smaller candle and voila—a fresh new home accent!
