How Flowers Can Affect Your Mood

bright flowersGiving someone a bouquet of flowers is a great idea for plenty of reasons. Not only is it a kind gesture, but flowers look nice and can be used to brighten up any room. Now scientific data has backed up another reason why flowers are good to have around: they make people happy. While this may seem obvious, until recently there was no scientific evidence to back up this claim, but now we have proof thanks to a study conducted at the State University of New Jersey.

One of the main goals of the research was to analyze and identify how people can improve their moods on a daily basis. Of course, there are plenty of treatments and other methods that can make some people happier, but there are few natural and completely healthy ways. It turns out that simply being around and smelling flowers can really turn someone’s day around if things aren’t going right, and over time they can improve a person’s overall emotional wellbeing.

Some of the specific findings of the research include the fact that the emotional impact flowers can have on us is immediate. People of all ages were given flowers, and across the board they smiled upon receiving them. The researchers were able to analyze that these smiles were indeed of a happy and excited nature. As we mentioned, some of the benefits are a bit more long-term. People who spend more time around flowers tend to stay in better touch with friends and family members, according to the study.

This research is just one example of the efforts people are making to learn more about flowers and why they make us happy. The next time you’re feeling down, spend some time around a beautiful bouquet.
